Therapeutic Massage

Massage, Human Movement, and Body Awareness are natural tools that may be utilized by individuals who wish to increase their capabilities and attain a deeper, richer, and more meaningful life. My goal is to assist these searching souls to rediscover the miracle of self-aware consciousness so that it may ignite a deep desire to continue learning about the body during this life and beyond.

ESALEN

Esalen Massage helps release the stresses of everyday life, leaving the receiver feeling whole, integrated and deeply relaxed, in a natural state of well-being. The Esalen Massage is best described as the interface and integration of form, energy, structure, and soul. With its nurturing contact, integrating strokes, and detailed attention to the whole body, an Esalen Massage provides a state of deep relaxation and healing. Esalen Massage goes beyond the physical result of bodywork by focusing on energy exchange and psychological well-being.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE

Active Release Techniques is a highly advanced and specific treatment method for soft tissue injuries, myofascial release, nerve entrapment, and decreased/limited range of motion and flexibility. It is the active motion, directed pressure, and specificity of treatment of the muscle that allows the practitioner to break up the adhesions. But what is an “adhesion” anyway? An adhesion is fibrous tissue that develops from a small tear in the muscle, tendon or ligament. Some people may call this “scar tissue” as well. How does it get there in the first place?

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE

DEEP TISSUE

Deep Tissue Massage is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). It is a more focused type of massage to release chronic muscle tension or "knots" (also known as "adhesions").

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish massage involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.

TRIGGER POINT

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the application of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofascial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) trigger point therapy. Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage for trigger point therapy, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application a sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a therapeutic method of relieving pain by stimulating predefined pressure points on the feet and hands. This control pressure alleviates the source of the discomfort. Reflexology promotes healing by stimulating the nerves in the body and encouraging the flow of blood. In the process, reflexology not only quells the sensation of pain, but relives the source of pain as well.

About Me

Since 1997, Ulysses Espinosa has been practicing therapeutic bodywork. Ulysses holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Exercise Science and a minor in Holistic Health. Originally trained in Esalen style massage, his technique has evolved into a fusion of Eastern and Western methods learned from exceptional teachers and mentors around the world. These methods range from subtle energy work, such as Reiki, to deep tissue work, such as myofascial release and Active Release Technique.

Not only does Ulysses bring a wealth of knowledge to his practice, he also has an intuitive passion for healing. He has worked with a variety of clients, from individuals who are bed-ridden and are looking for gentle and restoring massage, to elite athletes seeking relief from pain and injuries. Every massage allows Ulysses to get in touch with the client's body and address not only the healing process of the body, but also the wellbeing of the mind. His practice has a warm and welcoming environment where clients can release everyday stresses and relax and reconnect to the present.

Ulysses’ aptitude for healing has increased during years of deep learning at Life Chiropractic College West (Life West). Through chiropractic teachings, Ulysses has been able to integrate a comprehensive understanding of the body’s nervous system into therapeutic bodywork.

Areas of Expertise: Active Release Technique (ART), Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Esalen, Swedish, Sports, Acupressure, and Reiki 2

In December 2017, Ulysses will hold a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Life West.
